If you are anything like me, you do as much of your Christmas gift shopping online as possible. Especially if I host Thanksgiving dinner, I am certainly not going to get up at the crack of dawn (or worse, head out to shop after picking the Turkey and washing every dish I own after dinner) to fight the masses for the last latest hot fad of the year on Black Friday.
Honestly, I do just about all of my shopping online, especially during the holidays. I shop on several online stores – see the side bar for a list. Yes, I have, at least at one time or another, shopped at each of these stores. (Disclaimer: If you shop by clicking on my link here, I will receive a commission on your purchase.) Lots of these stores have incredible Cyber Monday and other specials leading up to Christmas. Check out the links and see for yourself!
There are a lot of really great benefits to Christmas gift shopping online. First of all, you can take your time, sit back with a cup of hot tea, and comparison shop between all kinds of stores to be sure you get the best deal. Secondly, when you order online, everything can be delivered right to your door. No fighting traffic, crowds, parking spaces, time, etc. Another wonderful benefit is that you can shop anytime at all, day or night, even 2:00 in the morning.
Some tips to keep in mind when doing your Christmas gift shopping online are: Lots of stores will offer free shipping, especially at this time of year. And if they don’t, be sure to include the shipping cost when comparing prices between different stores. You can even purchase physical or digital gift cards of ALL kinds online. Many can be found on Amazon.com, and others can be purchased by visiting the store or restaurant of choice.
Also, this time of year is no time to take chances on stores that you aren’t familiar with. If you want ice skates, and find a great pair at an incredibly low price on a website called ice-skates-for-u.ru, you might want to decide that’s one of those “too good to be true” offers and steer clear. Be careful to do your Christmas gift shopping online only on reputable sites. When in doubt, if you are pretty sure the site is legitimate, search online for it and see if there are any BBB complaints or comments about them in forums or any other information.
As with physical shopping, be careful not to overspend. Stick to your budget and think about each purchase before hitting that submit button. Most stores, when you already have an account set up with them, will allow you to put things in a shopping cart and leave them there for days or longer. I especially like Amazon’s shopping cart where you can fill it up with stuff you want to buy now and even have stuff saved for later. It will all be listed in my cart, but the stuff saved for later won’t be included when I check out. That comes in really handy for things I want to buy but can’t yet – or want to think about for a while first.
When you do purchase, be sure to print your receipt (or copy and paste it to a document on your computer) so that you have proof just in case something goes wrong with the order or delivery. Your order history is usually saved in your store’s account, but it never hurts to have your own copy of your purchases as well.
Hope this helps with your Christmas gift shopping online, and have a wonderful holidays season!
